The short version: this site collects as little as it can get away with. No advertising, no third-party trackers, no profiling, no cookie wall — because there are no cookies to ask you about.

Reading#

Reading a page here does not create an account, set a cookie, or hand your visit to anyone else. The pages are static files served from a server I control.

Two things do happen:

  • Server logs. The web server records the usual request line: the page, the time, the referrer, the user agent and a truncated IP address. That is how I know whether anything I write gets read at all.
  • Aggregate analytics. Page views and referrers are counted with a self-hosted, cookieless open-source analytics service running on my own infrastructure. It does not fingerprint you, does not follow you across sites, and stores no identifier that points back at a person.

Both are kept in aggregate and pruned on a rolling basis. Neither is shared with anyone, and neither is used to build a profile of you.

The newsletter#

The newsletter has not started yet. If you leave your address, the following is stored: the address, the language and the page you left it from, and the date. It is kept in a database on my own infrastructure, not on a marketing platform.

  • Nothing is sent to you yet. No welcome email, no confirmation, nothing.
  • When the newsletter starts, the first email asks you to confirm. If you do not confirm, your address is deleted and you get nothing else.
  • Emails will carry no tracking pixel. I will not know whether you opened one, and I do not want to.
  • Every email will have a working unsubscribe link.

Your address is used for the newsletter and for nothing else. It is never sold, shared or handed to an advertiser.

Your data, back or gone#

Write to dawit@gojodigital.com and ask for an export or a deletion. An export comes back as JSON or CSV; a deletion is a deletion, not a flag. Either way you get an answer within a few days from the same person who wrote the code.

Fonts, embeds and third parties#

Fonts are served from this domain. There are no social embeds, no comment widgets, no CDN-hosted scripts and no external JavaScript. Links to Hacker News, Reddit, LinkedIn and the rest are plain links — nothing loads from them until you click.

Changes#

If any of this changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
